Merrimack Valley Housing Partnership Project Genesis is a comprehensive series of training seminars for first time home buyers. It consists of 10 hours of instruction over four evening sessions. Upon completion of the program graduates are able to meet individually with MVHP's Home Buyer Counselor to address their readiness to purchase or address credit concerns, budgeting or any issues pertinent to their needs. These meetings are free of charge. The following topics are covered. 1. Overview of the Home Buying Process 2. Mortgage Application Process 3. Down Payment Assistance Programs 4. Legal Aspects of Purchasing 5. Home Inspections 6. Household Budgeting 7. Building Good Credit 8. Insurance Requirements 9. Multi-Unit Housing Options 10. Responsible Home Ownership The program is taught by MVHP staff as well as several volunteer professionals. Instructors include lenders, attorneys, home inspectors, real estate brokers and others. We have pre-purchase classes in English, Spanish and Khmer.The certificate from this class provides access to the One Mortgage and MassHousing as well as city and statewide down payment assistance programs based on eligibilty. We offer Landlord Training classes on a monthly basis which are accepted by MHP and MassHousing in fulfilling their requirements for buyers purchasing 2-4 family homes.
