Home Start's prevention programs staff utilizes a combination of their housing and stabilization knowledge, mediation techniques, and flexible monetary funds to help high-risk households retain their housing and avoid shelters.

The Homeless Prevention Council provides extensive counseling and guidance to those at risk of becoming homeless. The client services include; advocacy and access to housing programs and funding, budgeting and negotiation for rent and mortgage payments. The Women's Lunch Place is a daytime refuge in Boston's Back Bay for women and children who are poor and/or homeless.
